Ulema should play their role to curb the trend of honour-killings in the country.
This was stated by Chairman Markazi Ulema Council and former member Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), Sahibzada Zahid Mahmood Qasmi, and others while talking to APP here on Friday.
He said that islam is a religion of peace and it clearly forbids murder of any innocent person.
"We could not justify this act, which has plagued our society for the last many centuries," he added.
Commenting on the legal implications of honour-killing, senior lawyer and former judge Lahore High Court Malik Farrukh Gulzar Awan said that the legislature had declared it a heinous crime. Sometimes, the family members take illegal benefit of some provisions to save the culprit, he added.
A senior psychiatrist, Imtiaz Dogar, urged the NGOs, particularly working for women rights, to sensitise society to curb the menace.
