OneWeb Satellites Not To Be Launched From Russian Vostochny Cosmodrome In 2019 - Source

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th December, 2018) Arianespace has rejected Russian proposal to carry out two launches of Soyuz-2 carriers with UK communications satellites OneWeb from Vostochny cosmodrome, located in the Russian Far East, in 2019, a source from rocket and space industry told Sputnik.

"The OneWeb program schedule for 2019 was like this: two launches from Kourou cosmodrome in French Guiana in the first and the fourth quarters, and four launches from Baikonur cosmodrome one in the third quarter and three in the fourth quarter," the source said.

He added that Russia had proposed to Arianespace to carry out two launches from Vostnochny cosmodrome instead of Baikonur, but Arianespace had rejected the proposal claiming that this would be inconvenient in terms of logistics.

"The launch operator explained that it would be expensive to change the previously planned scheme of equipment deliveries to Baikonur," the source said.
