NAWABSHAH, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Dec, 2018 ) :Sindh Abadgar board (SAB) Thursday demanded implementation on sugar factories act by starting cane crushing, payment of support price fixed by government along with outstanding arrears of quality premium.
Senior leader of Sindh Abadgar Board Syed Zain Shah accompanied by Falak Sher Oad and others addressing a press conference at Nawabshah Media Center said that Sugarcane growers would stage a strong protest if their demands were not met.
SAB would stage protest and sit-in on December 14, 2018 at Bypass Qazi Ahmed, he announced.
He said that according to Sindh Sugar Factories Control Act the joint meeting of Sugar mills owners, sugarcane growers and government officials was to be held in the month of September but Sindh government failed to convene the meeting.
Syed Zain Shah said that earlier it was decided to start crushing season in October then it was postponed to November but the decision could not be implemented yet.
He said that in previous year protest had been staged by SAB on the issue throughout the province and Board was again constrained to stage protest in the wake of adverse attitude of government.
Zain Shah appealed Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to implement his previous year's orders to resolve the issues of growers.
Demands of Sugar mill owners were linked with Federal government, he said adding that while the government has permitted the mills for export of sugar and for that reason growers should be paid Rs.182 per 40 kilo of sugarcane as mills were getting subsidy from federal government on sugar export.
He vowed that income by sugar mills on cane by-products should be kept in sight.
He disclosed cultivation area of sugarcane has reduced from 0.7 million acres to 0.5 million acres due to attitude of mill owners and inadequate rate of cane.
