State Dept Says US, Russian Experts To Explore If Further Anti-Terror Cooperation Possible

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th December, 2018) US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Vladimirovich Syromolotov agreed during talks in Vienna that US and Russian experts would meet in the future to discuss whether further cooperation on counterterrorism is possible, the State Department said in a press release on Thursday.

"Going forward, US and Russian experts will meet at the working level to explore whether further cooperation on counterterrorism will be possible," the release said.

Sullivan and Syromolotov met in Vienna, Austria for a Counterterrorism Dialogue.

The release said the two diplomats discussed a reciprocal exchange of information that would protect US interests and citizens from terrorist attacks.

Sullivan also addressed Russian attempts to undermine democratic institutions and its continued aggression in Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement earlier in the day also said that Sullivan and Syromolotov addressed the topic of anti-terror efforts. The Russian readout said the two diplomats discussed the principles and main tasks of enhancing bilateral cooperation to counter terrorist threats and exchanged views on promising areas for further collaboration.

Russian officials have repeatedly rejected allegations of interfering in Ukraine's internal affairs.
