German National Killed in Deadly Train Crash in Ankara - Foreign Ministry

A German citizen died in a deadly high-speed train crash in the Turkish capital of Ankara, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Thursday.

BERLIN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th December, 2018) A German citizen died in a deadly high-speed train crash in the Turkish capital of Ankara, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Thursday.

As many as nine people were killed and 84 others were injured during a crash involving a high-speed train at the Marsandiz railway station. The train was traveling from Ankara to the southern city of Konya when it collided with a locomotive.

"According to our information, at the moment, we should believe that one German [national] is among the victims," Maas said as quoted in a ministry's statement, extending condolences to the victims.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier on Thursday that three people had been detained as part of the investigation into the incident.
