Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), Qibla Ayaz on Thursday underlined the need for revising syllabus to promote values of coexistence and harmony among students in the educational institutions.
Speaking at a seminar "Coexistence at Universities" held here at International Students Convention organized by the Inter University for Promotion of Social Sciences (IUPSS), he said that the colleges are not focusing on the provision of education regarding coexistence. He said that in the current education system of the country, the educational institutions are not promoting coexistence and harmony. He said that our education system is totally opponent of the needs of society.
He stressed the need for the establishment of student councils and societies in the colleges and universities where different topics should be discussed to create harmony among various segments of the society.
Only in the atmosphere of critical thinking, the students can find a suitable resolution of their problems, he added.
Unfortunately, he said, the trend of teaching social sciences in the educational institutions is declining due to lack of jobs in the field. "If we could not find a solution for the sake of social sciences, the demand of the subject will end which automatically will harm the society" he added.
He said that unfortunately, the trend of co-curricular activities like debates, poetry, etc. was dying in the universities which are mandatory for coexistence. He also underlined the need of knowledge-based economy through academia-industry linkages.
