NAB Organises Awareness Walk, Cheque Distribution Ceremony

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi organised a walk in connection with International Anti-Corruption Day, which is observed every year under United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).
The walk commenced from the NAB Karachi Office -- Dr. Daudpota Road led by Director General NAB Karachi Brig (retd) Farooq Naser Awan.
Human rights activist Faisal Edhi, Ex-head CPLC Jameel Yousf, senior officials of the NAB and other notables attended the walk, said a statement on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Brig (retd) Farooq Naser Awan said that the NAB Karachi has geared up its operations against the corrupt practices. The NAB Karachi has remained successful in achieving the confidence of public at large, he added.
He further said that it was important to understand that all decisions in the NAB are taken in board meetings chaired by the Chairman NAB as well as Regional Board Meetings (RBMs) chaired by Regional director generals.
He said that a case passes through the phases of complaint verification, inquiry, investigation and reference. The whole process completes within the deadline of 10 months, he added.
Highlighting the performance of the NAB (Karachi), he said during year 2018, the NAB Karachi received and disposed of over 10,000 complaints which is the largest count in one year since its inception.
The NAB Karachi recovered over Rs 518 million and arrested 153 accused in 2018, he said.
Brig (retd) Farooq accompanied by other guests also distributed cheques worth Rs 236.24 million amongst the beneficiaries Federal as well as provincial government departments and affectees of various scams.
He further stated that on the directions of incumbent chairman, the NAB Karachi holds public hearings to listen to the people's grievances on every last Thursday of each month.
People's trust in the NAB is increasing as eradication of corruption is the voice of the nation and efforts of the NAB in eradication of the menace have been widely acknowledged, he said.
He reiterated the resolve to take forward the mission of the NAB and to rid the society of the menace of corruption.
Faisal Edhi and Jameel Yousuf also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of the NAB.
