BECS Teachers Call Off Protest After Negotiation With Education Ministry Officials

Representatives of the Protesting Basic Education and Community Schools (BECS) teachers agreed to call off Dharna at "D-Chowk" Islamabad after negotiations with Officials of the Federal Education Ministry led by Federal Secretary, Arshad Mirza.
The meeting was held on the instructions of Federal Education Minister, Shafqat Mahmood, a press release said on Thursday.
The negotiations between the Ministry Officials and the teachers' representatives were fruitful and the representatives of the protesters who attended the meeting promised in the presence of ICT Administration to immediately call-off Dharna/Protest.
During the negotiations the leadership of the protesting BECS teachers was given written assurance that no teacher will be removed arbitrarily and the ministry will expedite payment of dues and teachers will be considered for regularization.
The BECS school teachers were holding a sit-in in D-Chowk, Islamabad for several weeks for non-payment of salaries and issues of regularization.
