UAE Cabinet Minister Praises Military Pressure in Yemen for Al Hudaydah Breakthrough

Military pressure on Houthi rebels around the key port of Al Hudaydah has led to a ceasefire that will reopen the aid lifeline to Yemen, the UAE minister of state for foreign affairs said.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th December, 2018) Military pressure on Houthi rebels around the key port of Al Hudaydah has led to a ceasefire that will reopen the aid lifeline to Yemen, the UAE minister of state for foreign affairs said.

A province-wide ceasefire and military drawdown was agreed Thursday by the internationally-recognized Yemeni government and Houthis after a week of UN-mediated talks in Sweden.

"Encouraging news today from Sweden. Important political progress made including the status of Hodeida. The Coalition & Yemeni forces military pressure enabled this significant breakthrough," Anwar Gargash tweeted.

He said 5,000 Emirati soldiers had been on standby outside the port, adding up to the pressure on Houthis. He praised the Saudi-led Arab coalition for living up to its commitment to "maintain the flow of humanitarian assistance" to the war-torn country.
