AJK cabinet  approves amendment acts of Chief Election Commissioner of the state

The AJK cabinet in its meeting held late Wednesday approved the amendment acts of Chief Election Commissioner and the state run Kotli University

MIRPUR (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Dec, 2018 ) : The AJK cabinet in its meeting held late Wednesday approved the amendment acts of Chief Election Commissioner and the state run Kotli University.

It also constituted a high level committee to propose effective laws to strengthen the AJK Accountability Bureau to ensure eradication of corruption and wrongdoings in the State.

The cabinet gave approval for changing of timings from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the next three months on the move of government minister Ahmed Raza Qadri.

The cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan and attended by ministers, chief secretary and secretaries.

Speaking to the cabinet the Premier expressed satisfaction over the two and half years' performance of the government. He also expressed optimism that the ruling party would return victorious in the next general elections on the basis of its performance. He was of the view that enhancing the cabinet should bring improvement in performance of the government.

The PM also expressed resolve to better the AB system in a bid to nab the corrupts and crooks in AJK. He said a high level committee comprising of ministers for this purpose was already working which will submit its report within a month.

The cabinet meeting gave approval for amendment in law for continuation of term of employment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) through 13th constitutional amendment. It observed that according to interim constitution the term of service of CEC is for 5 years while according to laws it is for 3 years.

Additional chief secretary development Dr. Syed Asif Hussain Shah gave briefing to the cabinet on the steps taken by WAPDA and AJK government to address the environmental issues due to Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project. Prime Minister directed the departments to dispose of all the pending works with them in the first instance. He warned that action would be taken against defaulters.

The cabinet was briefed regarding action against encroachments in line with Supreme Court order in Mirpur.

It was told that 7.69 billion rupees were required for artificial lakes in the river to control the environment problems in the city. However, there was 2 billion rupees which would be spent on betterment of greater water supply scheme and sewerage treatment plants of the capital city. Mr. Haider told the cabinet that PM Imran Khan took personal interest in environmental issue in Muzaffarabad and called high level meeting on it. He also sent a high level commission to Muzaffarabad to review the situation. Its report is yet to be presented to the PM, he added. He said it is a matter of great importance adding that Ch. Tariq Farooq, Dr. Najeeb Naqi and Barrister Iftikhar Gillani has been given task of follow up on it.

The cabinet meeting also gave approval of tourism policy after a comprehensive briefing on the potential of tourism in AJK was given to it. It gave approval of adjusting employees of cooperative bank in other departments of the State.

The AJK cabinet meeting approved resolutions on Kartarpur corridor, paying tributes to AJK PM for effectively highlighting Kashmir issue during EU week at Brussels and Strasburg, his inauguration of pictorial exhibition on Kashmir there. It reposes its confidence in the leadership of Mr. Haider and pledged to take all necessary steps for progress and prosperity of the State.

Through another resolution the cabinet appealed the international community to implement the detailed report of Kashmir Parliamentary group in BP highlighting Indian atrocities in IHK. It also demanded for ending use of pellet guns and black laws by Indian forces in the held valley.

Through yet another resolution the cabinet expressed concerns over the deteriorating health of APHC leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah and demanded best medical treatment to him. It appreciated PM Imran Khan for condemning Indian atrocities through social media. It also welcomed the recent visit of chief of armed forces General Qamar Bajwa to LOC which boosted the morale of Kashmiris of both divide.
