South Korea started on Thursday its regular military drills to train the defense of Dokdo, a pair of rocky islets in the East Sea, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th December, 2018) South Korea started on Thursday its regular military drills to train the defense of Dokdo, a pair of rocky islets in the East Sea, local media reported.

According to Yonhap news Agency, the two-day maritime drills involve the destroyer called Gwanggaeto the Great and a number of other Navy and Coast Guard ships.

Due to bad weather conditions the participation of F-15K fighter jets, P-3C maritime surveillance plane and UH-60 helicopter has been cancelled, the publication said.

The Dokdo drills have been held by South Korea since 1986 twice a year.

The Dokdo islets were liberated from Japanese colonial rule in 1945, but Tokyo still lays claim to the islets.
