Ex-Texas Mayor, Obama Housing Chief Castro to Explore US Presidential Bid - Statement

Former Obama administration Housing Secretary Julian Castro in a statement on Wednesday announced that he is exploring a bid to become the next US president.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th December, 2018) Former Obama administration Housing Secretary Julian Castro in a statement on Wednesday announced that he is exploring a bid to become the next US president.

"As a kid growing up on the west side of San Antonio, I never thought that I'd one day be making this announcement," Castro said in a Twitter post. "I'm exploring a candidacy for President of the United States in 2020 to renew the promise of this country for all."

The 44-year old Castro, who once served as the mayor of San Antonio, in a video clip on the newly-launched julianforthefuture.com said Americans are united by the same daily needs including a good job, affordable healthcare and a clean environment.

Castro is the grandson of a Mexican immigrant and his mother is a Latina activist. His twin brother Joaquin Castro is a Democratic member of Congress.

Castro is a generation younger than the current figures currently leading in polls as potential Democratic Party contenders including former Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Elizabeth Warren. US Congressman Beto O'Rourke, who ran a close race for the Texas Senate seat against incumbent Ted Cruz, has also attracted widespread attention as a potential contender.
