Basant On The Cards: Says Culture Minister

Punjab Information and Culture Minister Fayaz ul Hassan Chohan has said that Punjab government was contemplating to allow Basant festivities next year and it had sought proposals from stakeholdres for a safe Basant festival.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Dec, 2018 ) :Punjab Information and Culture Minister Fayaz ul Hassan Chohan has said that Punjab government was contemplating to allow Basant festivities next year and it had sought proposals from stakeholdres for a safe Basant festival.

Addressing a Press Conference on 100-day performance of the Ministry at the Al Hamra here on Wednesday, he said that the issue was not of the twine but the use of metal wire by the kite-flyers, adding that the government wanted to ensure safety of the general public.

To a query, the Minister said some proposals such as installing a protective iron rod on motorcycles, imposing clause 144 or banning motorcycle for a day were discussed, adding that the government would reach consensus and reach a decision shortly.

To another query, he said there was no dispute from any segment of society on celebrating Basantl as it was a social and cultural event which was enriched in the cultural history of the subcontinent.

To a question, the Minister said Basant festival also created enormous economic activity and was a source of promoting tourism, adding that the protection of human life was an important aspect to ponder for the government before allowing Basant festivities.
