Estonia's Russian-Language ETV+ TV Channel Expands Broadcasting to Whole State - Statement

Estonia's Russian-language ETV+ TV channel expanded on Wednesday its broadcasting to cover the entire Baltic country, Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR), a publicly funded radio and television organization, said in a statement

TALLINN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th December, 2018) Estonia's Russian-language ETV+ tv channel expanded on Wednesday its broadcasting to cover the entire Baltic country, Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR), a publicly funded radio and television organization, said in a statement.

Before Wednesday, the ETV+ broadcaster was not available to owners of ordinary television antennas in some northeastern regions of Estonia. The channel has also improved the signal quality.

"The expansion of the broadcasting zone had been discussed for a long time, almost since start of broadcasting. This spring, the government has decided to allocate additional money to implement this idea," ERR board member Urmas Oru was quoted as saying in the statement.

The ETV+ broadcasting was launched in September 2015 with the expectation that it would compete with Russian TV channels. However, according to the Kantor Emor pollster, the broadcaster still has much smaller audience than Russian analogues.

Some 72 percent of Estonian citizens speak Russian, while 29 percent regard the Russian language as their mother tongue.
