MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th December, 2018) Moscow disagrees with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's claim that the recent Kerch Strait incident, during which three Ukrainian ships illegally crossed Russian territorial waters, was war, as Moscow qualifies the incident as a Kiev's provocation staged ahead of the election campaign in the country, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday.

Poroshenko recently qualified the incident as the beginning of a war in an interview for Fox news.

"We don't agree with this interpretation. This was a provocation by the Ukrainian side, and a blatant violation of the state border of the Russian Federation, with all ensuing consequences for the offenders and the offending side," Peskov told reporters.

He also voiced his belief that Ukraine needed this provocation for "electoral reasons."

"It stands out a mile that election campaign in Ukraine continues, and Russia is being portrayed as an enemy for the sake of reaching internal electoral goals," Peskov said.
