US Prosecutors Seek 2-Year Jail Term For Ex-Senate Staffer Who Lied In Leak Probe - Filing

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th December, 2018) US Federal prosecutors are seeking a two year jail sentence for former US Senate Intelligence Committee Security Director James Wolfe for lying to the FBI during a probe about classified materials leaked to reporters, court documents revealed.

In October, Wolfe pleaded guilty of lying to the FBI about providing reporters with classified national security information. The FBI questioned Wolfe as part of a probe into the disclosure of national security information in a news article in April of 2017.

"A 24-month custodial sentence is appropriate to punish the defendant for his criminal conduct," the document said on Tuesday.

The guideline for such an offense is usually a maximum of six months. Wolfe is to be sentenced on December 30 by US District Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. SIC Chairman Senator Richard Burr and Senators Dianne Feinstein and Mark Warner have called for leniency for him.
