US Harry Truman Carrier Group Completes 7 Month Deployment in Arctic, Mediterranean - Navy

The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (CSG) has departed the US 6th Fleet following 7 months of maritime security operations divided between exercises in the Arctic and Mediterranean, the Navy announced in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (CSG) has departed the US 6th Fleet following 7 months of maritime security operations divided between exercises in the Arctic and Mediterranean, the Navy announced in a press release on Tuesday.

"Over the course of seven months in the region, the Harry S. Truman CSG conducted numerous bilateral and multilateral operations alongside allied and partner navies, to include forces from France, Germany, Italy, Norway and the United Kingdom," the release said.

The group initially deployed in the Mediterranean region in April, returned to the US in July and redeployed to the Arctic in September, the release said.

Upon its return to the European region in September, the strike group's sustained operations above the Arctic Circle were the first for an aircraft carrier in more than two decades, the release noted.

The Truman group participated in the NATO-led exercise Trident Juncture 2018 in the Arctic Ocean and North Atlantic, which involved personnel, ships and aircraft from every NATO member nation as well as partners Finland and Sweden.

Truman CSG units departing the European region also included embarked squadrons of Carrier Air Wing 1, Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy, and guided-missile destroyers Arleigh Burke and Forrest Sherman.
