Matviyenko Believes No Changes Needed in Fundamental Articles of Russian Constitution

There is currently no need to make any amendments to the fundamental articles of the Russian constitution, the Russian parliament's upper house speaker, Valentina Matviyenko, said, adding that she did not believe that such a need would emerge in the foreseeable future.

"I am categorically opposed to any amendments to the fundamental articles of our constitution. There is no need for this. Moreover, I do not see any reasons or conditions that could prompt changes to the fundamental articles of the constitution even in the long run," Matviyenko said as broadcast by Rossiya 24 television channel.

On Wednesday, Russia will be celebrating Constitution Day to commemorate the 25th anniversary since the adoption of the fundamental document.
