Duck Rearing Serves As Bioshield Against Malaria,dengue

The promotion of duck rearing especially in rural areas will not only served as bio-security shield against malaria and dengue but it will also provide protein rich meat and eggs.

Incharge Government Poultry Farm, while talking to APP here on Tuesday said that ducks were important biological control agent and have natural tendency of foraging mosquitos, its larvae and many other insects that causes diseases to humanbeings.The ducks swim conveniently in stagnant water and thus become a natural source to abolish mosquitos, she added.
She said that the scheme of provision of ducks was launched last year under which farmers especially residing near ponds were given a set of ducks,three female and one male, free of cost.
She said,the duck eggs and meat were an important source of quality protein for poor people in the villages. Ducks required less care than chicken and also the size of their eggs were big in size and it remained fresh for long time due to its hard shell,she added.
She suggested that 'Ducks rearing' scheme should be launched again as it would not only generate the poor farmers income,but also served as defence shield against malaria and dengue fever,adding that,as these birds were simple and hardy,required less expense, resistent to environmental conditions and common avian diseases.
