DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 11th Dec, 2018) H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, has awarded the winners of the 2nd Hamdan bin Mohammed Award for Innovation in Project Management, HBMAIPM.
The event took place on Tuesday, on the concluding day of the Dubai International Project Management Forum, DIPMF. Attendees included several dignitaries and top executives of public and private entities.
A short film about the DIPMF highlighting the upswing seen by Dubai was aired, followed by another footage about the awards, which has a purse of AED2.6 million (US$710,000). The award aims to identify, reward and promote innovation in project management by providing a database for the best practices and models in the field, and establishing a platform for sharing creative ideas, and training on project management skills.
Sheikh Hamdan, accompanied by the Director-General and Chairman of the board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, Mattar Al Tayer, presented the awards to the winners.
In the Individual Category, Dr. Michael O’Connor (USA) won the Innovative Project Award for the project titled, 'European Union, Medical Device Regulation - Enterprise PMO'. The project seeks to align the European Quality Programme, the Medical Device Regulation, and the European Diagnostic Device Regulation. The project comprises four workgroups and 18 organisational units through an Enterprise PMO with the objective of raising efficiency and productivity and providing a consolidated data source.
The winner of the Innovative Team Award was the Master Gas System Expansion Project of Saudi Aramco Co. It is one of the mega projects accomplished by a consortium of various engineers and experts aimed to improve the production of natural gas in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia such that CNG can be used to power electricity generation plants instead of crude oil. The project included the construction of two stations for compressing the natural gas, and the facility is considered the biggest of its type worldwide.
At the institution level, the Innovative Idea in Project Management Award was won by Implement Consulting Group, from Denmark for its Project Half Double, which boosted the competitive edge of the Danish industry. The project which aimed to implement projects in half the time with double the impact has enhanced the precision, innovation and development in projects.
Emirates Global Aluminium Company won the Innovative Idea in Project Management Award for Al Taweelah Alumina Refinery, ATA, Programme. It comprises three projects: the refinery with an annual production capacity of 4 million tonnes; the Bauxite Residue Storage Plant with a capacity of 2.4 million tonnes per annum; and the Steam and Power Blending Project which raised the production to 3,000 megawatts to support the refinery and plant.
The Swiss company Nestlé has won the Innovative Idea in Portfolio Management Award in the Organisations category for its Nestlé Business Services – End to End Project Portfolio Management. The portfolio, which boasts of global investment projects of 500 million Swiss Francs, includes traditional IT systems and projects, process improvement projects and organisational transformation projects.
In the Academic category, Dr. Yvette Burton from the USA received the Innovative use of Project Management Practises for her Master’s degree in Human Capital Management Master of Science Project, Columbia University. This programme is the first of its kind in terms of design and compatibility with the industrial needs.
Yousef Qteit from the UAE won the Research in Innovative Project Management Practices Award. The research discussed exploring the relationship between iterative-sequential learning during the life cycle of exploratory projects and innovation maturity. The research gives a better understanding of the strategic roles of innovation and exploration in the current highly competitive business world. Innovation and exploration are of paramount importance in maintaining the outstanding performance and competitiveness of enterprises in various sectors and industries.
Sheikh Hamdan then honoured the organisers and sponsors who played an active role in making the forum a success. A commemorative photograph was taken with Sheikh Hamdan and the members of the Board of Trustees of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Award for Innovation in Project Management as well as members of the Award Advisory Committee.
At the Galleria Hall, Sheikh Hamdan viewed models of key projects in Dubai, such as Al Shindagha Bridge Project currently being constructed by the RTA; the new DEWA Head Office which is named "The Sail Building", the world’s tallest, largest and smartest government building with zero carbon emissions. He also saw the 'Queen Elizabeth 2 Ship Model', a Deep Tunnel Boring Machine Model of Dubai Municipality, Falcon City Project Model and a large mural which displayed the 'Project Management History Timeline'.
