MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) At least three Indian policemen were killed in a terrorist attack in Shopian district of India's Jammu and Kashmir state, local media reported on Tuesday.
The police officers were monitoring the situation in a residential area, when terrorists attacked their guard post, entered inside and shot them dead, according to the NDTV broadcaster.
The police officers died at the scene, while the fourth officer was critically injured and transferred to a hospital.
The Indian government has been struggling with insurgency in the region since the late 1980s. New Delhi has repeatedly accused Pakistan of supporting the insurgents demanding the region's secession from India.
Both India and Pakistan along with China have been contesting Kashmir since 1947. The state is currently divided between the three sides, with the so-called Line of Control serving as a de facto border between the Indian and the Pakistani-controlled parts of Kashmir.
