US Looks Forward To Working With New Armenian Government On Security, Trade - State Dept.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) The United States looks forward to working with the newly-elected Armenian government and deepening cooperation on issues such as trade and regional security, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said in a press release.

On Sunday, snap parliamentary elections were held in Armenia for the first time in the country's history, with two blocks and nine parties competing. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's My Step Alliance won by securing over 70 percent of the vote while the former ruling Republican Party failed to clear the 5-percent threshold to get into the parliament.

"We look forward to working with the new Armenian Parliament and Government to deepen our bilateral partnership and cooperation to strengthen the rule of law and democratic institutions, combat corruption, promote trade and investment, and safeguard regional and global security," Palladino said on Monday.

The United States, he added, also concurs with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's (OSCE) preliminary conclusions that the elections process in Armenia received broad public trust and respected fundamental freedoms.
