Ukrainian Security Service Scares Citizens With 'Russian Invasion' In Information Booklets

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said Monday it has published information booklets about alleged "Russian aggression," scaring its citizens with the possibility of a Russian military invasion.

"SBU presents a series of special informational booklets about the forms and methods of Russian aggression. The first two issues are devoted to the terrorist activities of Russian special services in Ukraine and Kremlin's use of the religious structures of the Moscow Patriarchate in the hybrid war," it said.

It added a comment of SBU Head Vasyl Hrytsak saying that alleged Russian activities in Ukraine aimed to prepare "an open military invasion of Russian Armed Forces."

The booklets are published in Ukrainian and English.

Kiev authorities are working to establish a single local autocephalous (independent) church in the country based on the non-canonical Ukrainian orthodox churches. In October, the Synod of the Constantinople Patriarchate announced that it would proceed with granting independence to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, which Poroshenko, who seeks to establish a single independent church in the country, welcomed.

The Constantinople Patriarchate's decision prompted the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) to completely "break the Eucharistic communion" with the Patriarchate of Constantinople. The Moscow Patriarchate called Constantinople's decision the "legalization of schism," saying that it would have catastrophic consequences and affect millions of Christians in Ukraine and other countries.

On November 25, three ships of the Ukrainian Navy Berdyansk, Nikopol, and Yany Kapu breached the Russian border, entered Russian territorial waters that were temporarily closed, and began moving toward the Kerch Strait, which serves as the entrance into the Sea of Azov. The Ukrainian vessels and their crew were detained by Russia after failing to respond to a lawful demand to stop.

In response to the incident, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree declaring martial law in several Ukrainian regions located near the Russian border, and the coasts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the incident was a provocation prepared in advance as a pretext to introduce martial law. Putin said the provocation could be linked to Poroshenko's low approval ratings ahead of the presidential campaign set to start in late December.
