Call to take steps for resolving health, environmental issues

The government should take tangible steps to resolve the most important issues relating to people's health and environmental pollution.

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Dec, 2018 ) :The government should take tangible steps to resolve the most important issues relating to people's health and environmental pollution.

These views were expressed by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa while speaking at an inaugural session of 2nd International Conference of biochemistry, biotechnology and biomaterials titled "biochemistry for better health and environment in the developed world" at Iqbal Auditorium of University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) here Monday.

He urged the young scientists to come up with innovative ideas to fight the challenges. He said that out of 900 noble prize winners of the world, most of them have linked with biochemistry.

"We have to produce and promote biomaterials which are environment friendly. We have a long way to achieve goals of health, nutrition and environment security and avert future challenges," he added.

He said that with the passage of time, new diseases were broken out for which scientists had to enhance their efforts. He added that biochemistry begins with the seeding till the completion of the process of becoming edible.

Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood Khan stressed the need for strengthening ties between the scientists and industry by saying "The collaborative and trust building are essential for the development that must be cemented".

Dean Faculty of Sciences Dr Asghar Bajwa said they were kicking off BS programme in the said discipline. He said that today half of the campus is engaged in some form of biochemistry as it is a core discipline.

He also stressed the need to learn the modern tools and techniques to compete with the rest of the world.

Prof Dr Khalilur Rehman said biochemistry was a demand driven discipline. "If we look at number of applications submitted for admission, these are progressively growing, he said and added that the conference will set the path for chemistry and biochemistry scientists in the safer enlivenment and food security", he added.

Prof Dr Amir Jamil said the conference was aimed to bring together the scientists and researchers on a platform where they can provide solutions for safer environment and better nutrientfood.
