Yemen War Parties 'Not There Yet' in Ceasefire Talks for Al Hudaydah, Taiz - UN Envoy

Yemeni warring parties have been negotiating truces for Al Hudaydah and Taiz provinces but "nothing is agreed until everything is agreed," UN special envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths said on Monday.

DOHA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th December, 2018) Yemeni warring parties have been negotiating truces for Al Hudaydah and Taiz provinces but "nothing is agreed until everything is agreed," UN special envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths said on Monday.

Sweden has been hosting peace talks between Yemen's internationally-recognized government and Houthi rebels since last week. The rivals have drafted a ceasefire deal for Taiz, obtained by Sputnik.

Talking to reporters in Stockholm, Griffiths said that there were "drafts of pretty much all the issues that we've been discussing here... We keep redrafting. We are discussing those in detail with both parties."

"We've been talking about Al Hudaydah and Taiz. These are two major population zones... I hope we can reach an agreement to reduce fighting in both places. I hope that we can. We are not there yet," he said.

The envoy added he intended for both sides to agree at this round of talks to reconvene early next year. He stressed that if the parties agreed on those two places it would be a "huge boost" to when they get back together.
