US Energy Chief, Qatari Counterpart Discuss Expanding LNG Partnership - Press Office

US Energy Secretary Rick Perry and his Qatari counterpart Saad Al-Kaabi during a meeting in Doha discussed the idea of boosting investments in each country's liquefied natural gas (LNG) sectors, the Energy Department said in a press release on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th December, 2018) US Energy Secretary Rick Perry and his Qatari counterpart Saad Al-Kaabi during a meeting in Doha discussed the idea of boosting investments in each country's liquefied natural gas (LNG) sectors, the Energy Department said in a press release on Monday.

"Perry advocated for the expansion of joint partnerships with the United States as Qatar seeks to grow its LNG operations around the world," the release said. "The Ministers also discussed the potential of increased Qatar Petroleum investments in the United States energy sector."

Perry then headed to Saudi Arabia, the release added, where he held talks with Saudi Energy Minister Khalid Al-Falih and other industry stakeholders to reiterate the need for stable supply and market values in light of OPEC's decision to cut production.

OPEC and its allies last week reached a deal to slash oil production by 1.2 million barrels daily during the first half of 2019, with OPEC pledging cutbacks of 800,000 barrels daily and Russia offering additional cuts of 400,000 barrels a day.

In announcing the cutbacks, OPEC members and allies - especially the Saudis - rejected pressure from the Trump administration to maintain oil output to counter the impact of decreased Iranian exports due to US sanctions.
