Radar on Russia's A-50U AWACS Plane Can Detect New Types of Aerial Targets - Developer

Russia's modernized Beriev A-50U airborne early warning and control (AWACS) aircraft is capable of detecting new types of advanced aerial targets, the press service of the Ruselectronics holding told Sputnik on Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th December, 2018) Russia's modernized Beriev A-50U airborne early warning and control (AWACS) aircraft is capable of detecting new types of advanced aerial targets, the press service of the Ruselectronics holding told Sputnik on Monday.

"While upgrading the A-50U aircraft in order to improve its combat and flight characteristics, the Vega concern [part of the Ruselectronics holding] has modernized the on-board Shmel radar through the use of of advanced software and hardware," Ruselectronics, a subsidiary of Rostec state corporation, said.

According to Ruselectronics, the A-50U plane can now simultaneously follow more targets and guide more interceptor aircraft at longer range, while having the capability to detect new advanced types of airborne targets.
