Four-time winners Toulouse on course for Champions Cup quarter-finals

Paris, Dec 8 (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Dec, 2018 ) :In a repeat of the 2004 final undefeated Toulouse beat Wasps 24-16 on Saturday to remain on course for a Champions Cup quarter-final spot and all but knock the English club out.

In an impressive display of forward power and flowing clinical back play the four-time former champions claimed a seventh straight victory across all competitions thanks to tries from three-quarters Cheslin Kolbe and Sofiane Guitoune in Coventry.

Both efforts came directly from clean first phase possession as internationals Kolbe and Guitoune crashed through Wasps' former All Blacks fly-half Lima Sopoaga on separate occasions before touching down.

Wasps have a very difficult task ahead of them if they're to claim a last eight spot needing to win their remaining three fixtures.

It has been a controversial week for the winners 14 years ago in Twickenham with reports of front line players like Elliott Daly and Willie le Roux leaving the club at the end of the season.

Daly slotted two long-rage penalty goals which highlighted how much of a miss the England back would be if he were to depart.

A victory for Ugo Mola's at home next Saturday would almost guarantee them a quarter-final berth before a trip to Dublin and playing Bath at Stade Ernest-Wallon After losing to the French giants in October defending champions Leinster overcame a stubborn Bath 17-10 who gained a last minute bonus point thanks to a Jack Wilson penalty.

On a negative note, world player of the year Johnny Sexton hobbled off the field during the closing moments at the Recreation Ground.

Three-time former winners Toulon claimed the bragging rights in an-all French affair beating Montpellier 38-28 to secure their first European victory of the season.

To add to the visitors' pain South Africa playmaker Johan Goosen left the field on a stretcher with a knee injury only a week after making a return from an ankle problem which had kept him out for almost two months.

Gloucester beat fellow English club Exeter 27-19 at Sandy Park to grab first place in the group.

Glasgow moved to the top of their pool thrashing Lyon 42-22, who can longer qualify for the last eight in their first appearance in Europe's top-flight competition.

On Sunday Racing 92 welcome two-time former winners Leicester Tigers to Paris, Top 14 champions Castres head to 2006 and 2008 tournament champions Munster and unbeaten Saracens play the Cardiff Blues.
