Petition filed in LHC to form JIT on model town case

The petition added that despite assurances from the Punjab government, a notification in this regard has not been issued.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 8th December, 2018) A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) to form a new Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in the model town case.

The petition was filed by Minhaj ul Quran director Jawad Hamid. The petitioner adopted that the Punjab government should be ordered to form a new JIT in the case.

The petitioner said that the Supreme Court had heard the petition of Bisma, a Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) whose mother was killed in the carnage, where the Punjab advocate general had assured forming a new JIT.

The petition added that despite assurances from the Punjab government, a notification in this regard has not been issued.

Moreover, the petition contended that the investigation into the model town case has also not been made public.

The Supreme Court on December 5 ordered the Punjab government to constitute a fresh JIT for probing the Model Town incident.

the apex court had wrapped up the case after getting assurance from the Punjab government regrading setting up the new JIT.

At least 14 people were killed while around 100 were injured in police action against PAT workers during an 'anti-encroachment operation' in Lahore's Model Town area on June 17, 2014.
