Iran Wants to Strengthen Economic Cooperation With Russia - Head of Parliamentary Group

Iran considers it essential to enhance economic cooperation with Russia, including through the use of national currencies in trade, Head of Iran-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group Ramazan Ali Sobhanifar said Friday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th December, 2018) Iran considers it essential to enhance economic cooperation with Russia, including through the use of national currencies in trade, Head of Iran-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group Ramazan Ali Sobhanifar said Friday.

"The US Treasury attracted many experts in order to understand how to suspend our economic relations. I think that, against this backdrop, we should cooperate even more closely. I agree with you on the need to eliminate obstacles in our trade and economic relations. All the barriers should be removed," Sobhanifar said during the meeting with Russian Federation Council Deputy Speaker Iliyas Umakhanov.

Sobhanifar also noted that the national currencies should be used more widely in trade between two countries to reduce the impact of sanctions.

In May, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, and reimpose its sanctions against Iran that had been lifted under the agreement. The first round of restrictions came into force in August and the second one on November 5.

Despite Washington's unilateral move, other parties to the deal China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia, the United Kingdom and the European Union have expressed their commitment to maintaining it.
