French Ambassador Hopes for Positive Momentum of Consultations on Yemen to Persist

STOCKHOLM (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th December, 2018) The positive momentum created by the arrival of delegations from both the Yemeni government and the Houthis to the consultations on the country's peace process in Sweden will hopefully remain as the talks progress, Christian Testot, the ambassador of France to Yemen, told Sputnik on Friday.

"It is still very early in the consultations. The only thing that I can say is that we are very satisfied, we are very glad that the two parties came to discuss and we hope that it will be the starting point for creating the dynamic between them," Testot said.

The two delegations arrived in Sweden on Wednesday. The crisis settlement talks began on Thursday in Rimbo, a town north of Stockholm, and are expected to last through December 14.

Yemen has been ravaged by almost four years of war between an internationally backed government, aided by a Saudi-led coalition, and the Houthi rebels that has pushed half the country's population to the brink of starvation. An attempt to begin formal negotiations failed in September after Houthis said they were barred from leaving the country.
