CM for promoting awareness on oral cancer

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Oct, 2016 ) : Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has emphasized the need of fostering awareness about oral cancer. He was speaking at the convocation of Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM) here, the organisers of the event said on Tuesday.

Murad Ali expressed satisfaction that AIDM was also engaged in the community and charity activities by working in the localities of less privileged segment of the society, and increasing awareness about oral dental hygiene in the public sector schools.

" I request Principal of Altamash Institute, Prof Dr Muhammad Altamash to conduct a series of community activities for both urban and rural population to enhance awareness about oral cancer," the CM said.

He noted that the disease of oral cancer was spreading in our over-pressed working force because of increasing use of betel nuts and tobacco related stimulants , which were easily available in the market.

These were hazardous to health and had caused a serious concern for the nation as a whole. He said that efforts should be undertaken to save especially the school going children from this menace.

He also urged the youth to work hard and make this country a true reflection of the beliefs and convictions in shaping the future of the country.

" There is literally no end to seeking higher and advanced education," he stressed.

He quoted father-of-the-nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's saying " The price of greatness is a sense of responsibility." Syed Murad Ali Shah appreciated the contribution of AIDM in medical and social sectors.

He hoped that the graduates from this institute would excel globally and bring home cutting edge knowledge and clinical skills currently being practiced in the developed world. Addressing the students completing their four-year course, BDS, at AIDM, the CM said as professional leaders they were much needed by the society in general and medical profession in particular.

The youth has a vast reservoir of energy and idealism. They should fight the twin cures of diseases and poverty, he emphasized. On the occasion, 160 graduate students were given degrees and 24 students awarded gold, silver medals.

Vice Chancellor of University of Karachi, Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser praised AIDM faculty and administration's efforts, dedication and selfless commitment for fulfilling the academic needs of the graduating students during their studies.
