Azam Swati resigns as federal minister

A case against Azam Swati is underway in the Supreme Court over the transfer Islamabad IG.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 6th December, 2018) Federal Minister for Science and Technology Azam Khan Swati has resigned from his position.

A case against Azam Swati is underway in the Supreme Court over the transfer Islamabad IG.

Azam Swati presented his resignation in a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had also claimed that Azam Swati will resign the moment he is proved guilty. The prime minister had contended that he neither interfered in Azam Swati's issue nor in the JIT's report and assured that the Supreme Court's decision over the issue would be implemented.

Media reports however hinted that Azam Swati could resign any moment today.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday warned Azam Swati to get ready for proceedings under Article 62-1(f).

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said that he has written the reply of Federal Minister for Science and Technology Azam Swati.

The CJP added that the court will conduct the trial itself as per Article 62-1 (f).

He further said that you are the ruler of the day. "Do you treat your masses like this? Do rulers send women to jail because of cows?" he said.

Why shouldn’t we make an example out of Azam Swati, the CJP added.

Addressing the IGP, the CJP said that you didn’t take any action. To this, the IGP replied that the matter is pending in court, that’s why he didn’t take any action.
