French Parliament's Lower House Backs Freeze On Fuel Tax Hikes

PARIS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th December, 2018) The lower chamber of the French parliament on Wednesday endorsed the cabinet motion to suspend fuel tax increases amid public outcry.

The National Assembly voted 358-194 in favor of the government declaration on "ecological taxation and its consequences for the purchasing power."

A French broadcaster, BFMTV, cited government officials as saying that the freeze would stay in place for the entire year.

French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said in parliament that the suspension of a rise in fuel and electricity prices was suggested to make room for debate on more efficient measures.
