MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd December, 2018) The officers of Ukrainian State Border Guard Service's Eastern Regional Directorate, whose area of responsibility includes Kharkiv, Sumy and Luhansk regions, barred 218 Russians from entering Ukraine over the past week, the directorate's head Andriy Ignatyev said on Monday.

"[As many as] 6,213 Russian citizens crossed the state border, 218 were denied entry," Ignatyev said at a briefing.

On Saturday, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service Andriy Demchenko said that 99 Russians had been denied entry to the country over three days, with most of them being unable to explain the purpose of their trip, while some did not have the relevant documents or exceeded the allowed stay.

On November 30, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that the country imposed restrictions on the entry of Russian male citizens aged 16 to 60. One day earlier, Kiev imposed martial law in a number of regions in Ukraine, including those bordering Russia. This regime provides for the possibility of temporary restriction of constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens.

In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised not to retaliate against this move, but even facilitate Ukrainians' stay in Russia and obtaining citizenship. The Russian Foreign Ministry has noted that this decision proves Russia's good intentions toward Ukrainians.
