Trump Meeting With Schumer, Pelosi Postponed Due to Bush Funeral - Reports

A scheduled meeting between US President Donald Trump and congressional Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi has been postponed following the death of former President George H.W. Bush, US media reported on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd December, 2018) A scheduled meeting between US President Donald Trump and congressional Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi has been postponed following the death of former President George H.W. Bush, US media reported on Monday.

The White House meeting, which was scheduled for Tuesday, was put on hold due to the funeral arrangements for the late president, who passed away on Friday night, The Hill reported.

According to the report, Trump was expected to discuss government funding issues with House Minority Leader Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Schumer ahead of a looming December 7 deadline to tackle seven appropriations bills.

On November 23, Trump called on Republicans and Democrats in Congress to be united in coming up with a border security legislative package that will provide funding to build a wall on the US-Mexico border.

The Trump administration is seeking $5 billion to build the border wall, but opposition from Democrats could lead to a government shutdown.

Democrats and some Republicans do not support Trump's agenda on building the wall and have urged the US president to work with Congress on reforming the US immigration system.

Bush, who served as the 41st president of the United States from 1989 to 1993, died at the age of 94.
