Russian Diplomats Visit Yaroshenko In US Jail Due To Health Issues - Consulate General

NEW YORK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th November, 2018) Russian diplomats have visited pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko in prison in the US state of Connecticut amid reports that his health is worsening, the Russian Consulate General in New York said in a statement.

"Due to the information of worsening health conditions of K. Yaroshenko, diplomats from the Consulate General in New York have visited him at the Federal correction facility in Danbury, Connecticut," the Consulate General said via Facebook on Thursday.

Yaroshenko complained again that the prison dentist does not have the necessary treatment capabilities and has suggested extracting his affected teeth instead.

The Russian pilot also said that his other health complaints have not been addressed.

The Consulate General said that at present, Yaroshenko's numerous requests to undergo treatment in a different facility have not been met.

Yaroshenko first complained of health problems in early 2014 at a different prison facility that allowed a health check only after numerous requests by his lawyers and the Russian authorities.

In January 2016, Yaroshenko underwent an unscheduled surgery and could barely walk afterwards because of severe pain. A US doctor later said the surgery was botched.

The pilot underwent another surgery in December of 2017 that went well, his wife Victoria had told Sputnik.

The Consulate General said they continue to monitor the situation regarding Yaroshenko's health treatment and will provide necessary assistance as needed.

Yaroshenko was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2011 on charges of conspiring to import more than $100 million worth of cocaine to the United States. The pilot was captured in Liberia in 2010 and transferred to the United States, prompting protests from Russia.
