Mueller Quizzing Trump On 2016 Policy Change On Ukraine In Republican Platform - Reports

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th November, 2018) Special Counsel Robert Mueller has included in his written questions to US President Donald Trump one exploring Trump's alleged role in watering down a pledge to send weapons to Ukraine in the 2016 Republican Party platform, media reports said.

The list of questions that Mueller has sent to the president included one on the controversial change to the Republican National Convention platform in June 2016, when Trump approved watering down a previously included pledge to send weapons to Ukraine, ABC news said on Wednesday.

However, in 2017, Trump's new administration fulfilled the original hardline proposal and approved deliveries of weapons to Kiev, including Javelin anti-tank missiles. The previous Obama administration had refused to do so, despite repeated requests from the Ukrainian side.

Moscow has repeatedly warned against supplying weapons to Ukraine, saying that this would result in an escalation of the military conflict in the country's eastern Donbas region, ongoing since 2014. This stance has also been supported by a number of European officials.
