Russian Heart Disease-Caused Death Rate Fell 50% in 10 Years - Health Minister

Russia's heart disease-caused death rate has been lowered to 500 cases per 100,000 people in 2018, while 10 years ago the ratio was between 1,100 and 1,200 cases, Russian Minister of Health Veronika Skvortsova said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th November, 2018) Russia's heart disease-caused death rate has been lowered to 500 cases per 100,000 people in 2018, while 10 years ago the ratio was between 1,100 and 1,200 cases, Russian Minister of Health Veronika Skvortsova said Wednesday.

"Mortality rate due to cardiovascular diseases accounted for 1,100 to 1,200 deaths per 100,000 people in 2008, now this ratio is between 500 and 580, in some regions it is much lower, we have regions with only 240 deaths," Skvortsova said during the 8th Russian Patient Congress.

Skvortsova noted that this decrease in deaths was achieved via a complex approach involving medical checkups and forming up of proper first aid logistics for acute vascular incidents. She also added that vascular centers were created in 2008 for quick medical assistance.

"Everything is different there, not like in a typical hospital, there is a different patient reception, computed tomography for emergency uses, emergency blood test, crucial for the proper treatment," Skvortsova said, adding that there were only 48 vascular centers in 12 Russian regions in 2008, while now the quantity reached 609, and the number is expected to grow.

Previously, Skvortsova said that all of the centers will be re-equipped with the new technologies by 2024 under the framework of the national project "Public Health."

Russian Patient Congress helps to establish better communications channels on public health related issues between the government and non-governmental organizations. Organized since 2010, it provides a platform for discussion between non-governmental organizations of patients, public officials, professional community, and mass media.
