1st Wapda Chairman Amateur Golf From Nov 30

The inaugural WAPDA Chairman Amateur Golf Championship will tee off here on November 30 at the Defence Raya Golf and Country Club Golf Course.

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Nov, 2018 ) :The inaugural WAPDA Chairman Amateur Golf Championship will tee off here on November 30 at the Defence Raya Golf and Country Club Golf Course.

This was stated by Muhammed Zafar, General Manager Sports, WAPDA at a press conference at the Defence Raya Golf Club on Wednesday.

The press conference was also attended by Col (r) Asif Mehdi, Advisor Sports, Muhammed Razzaq, General Secretary, Saqlain Zahoor Raja, Director General Sports, Shafqat Rana ,Advisor Sports, Shahid Javed Khan, Tournament Director, Abid Rana DG (PR) and Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed.

Muhammed Zafar highlighted that WAPDA has a playing strength of 2200 sports persons and these persons are associated with 37 men disciplines and 29 women disciplines.He also stated that WAPDA sports persons have excelled to an extent that they were champions of 2012 national games, winners in 34 disciplines(17 men and 17 ladies).

Runners up position was attained in 20 disciplines(14 men and 6 women).What is notable is that WAPDA athletes have brought 82 gold,112 silver and 137 bronze medals at international level from 2006 to date. As regards the WAPDA Amateur Golf Championship, Muhammed Zafar stated that WAPDA intends to use it to raise awareness about water shortage and building water reservoir for posterity.

Col (r) Asif Mehdi stated that eligible to participate in this grand event are registered amateurs with a handicap of 12 and below.

Being a national event it is going to attract skilled golf players from all over the country. He further said that ,undoubtedly these contenders have the capacity to demonstrate excellent golfing skills, and when these aspirants are competing, it is a treat to follow them and watch how they produce quality scores through skillful application of champion like abilities and unmatched consistency whereby they carve out victories for themselves which bring them honors and glory and attractive prizes.

Besides the top amateurs , also eligible to participate are veterans ,senior amateur golf players and ladies.

On the final day there will also be an invitational event.

Col Asif (r) spelled out that Amateurs (handicap 12 & below) will compete over three rounds from 30th Nov to 2nd December. Seniors amateurs will compete over two rounds on 30th Nov and 1st December.

Ladies compete on 1st and 2nd December.He also said that the inaugral shot will be hit by Omer Ayub, Minister for Energy on Friday 30th November at 10 am and Federal Minister for Power, Faisal Wada will award prizes to the top performers on Sunday ,2nd December at Defence Raya.

The prizes at stake are attractive and besides trophies the winners will get useful golf equipment related gifts. In numerical terms, the competing hopefuls add up to a total of 320 aspirants and include 140 amateurs, 70 seniors, 30 ladies 20 veterans and 60 in the invitational.

Names of the more prominent participants are Ahmed Baig, Wazir Ali, Sardar Murad Khan, M.Saqib, Fakhar Imam, Murad A.Khan, Ahsan Khawaja, Zunair Aleem Khan, Mohsen Zafar, Salman Jehangir, Shafiq Bhatti and Raja Asif Mehdi.

The prominent ladies are Ghazala Yasmin,Ana James Gill, Parkha Ijaz, Rimsha Ijaz and Mrs Asma Shami.
