Lavrov To Meet Representative Of OSCE Chairperson-in-Office For Transnistria On Monday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th November, 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will have a meeting with Franco Frattini, special representative of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, in Moscow on Monday.

Lavrov and Frattini are set to address items on the agenda of the upcoming 25th OSCE Ministerial Council in Italy's Milan regarding the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and other issues of common interest.

Transnistria is an unrecognized republic with a predominantly ethnic Russian and Ukrainian population, which proclaimed its independence from the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1990. That same year, an�armed conflict broke out between the two sides. A ceasefire agreement was reached in July 1992, but the conflict has remained unresolved with Transnistria still seeking international recognition.

The OSCE Ministerial Council will be held on December 6-7, bringing together the foreign ministers of all 57 OSCE participating states, including Russia.
