Lavrov on UK's Russia Threat Claim: We Cannot Forbid Anyone to Show 'Intellectual Skills'

Moscow cannot forbid anyone from "demonstrating" their "intellectual and political skills," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Saturday, commenting on a recent claim by Mark Carleton-Smith, the UK chief of the General Staff, that Russia was a bigger threat to the UK security than the Islamic State and al-Qaeda terrorist groups (both banned in Russia).

LISBON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th November, 2018) Moscow cannot forbid anyone from "demonstrating" their "intellectual and political skills," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Saturday, commenting on a recent claim by Mark Carleton-Smith, the UK chief of the General Staff, that Russia was a bigger threat to the UK security than the Islamic State and al-Qaeda terrorist groups (both banned in Russia).

"As for if there is a red line in Russia for statements similar to the one that the UK chief of the General Staff took the liberty of making you know that we can't forbid anyone from demonstrating their intellectual and political skills," Lavrov said at a press conference with his Portuguese counterpart Augusto Santos Silva in Lisbon.

Lavrov added that while he had heard many similar statements by the UK defense minister, Russia could not influence the UK government's decisions on whom to entrust with directing the armed forces.
