DPR Militia Expects More Attacks By Ukrainian Forces After Delivery Of Polish Arms

DONETSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd November, 2018) The number of attacks by the Ukrainian army in Donbas may increase due to new deliveries of Polish weapons to Ukraine, Eduard Basurin, the deputy commander of the DPR Operational Command, said Friday.

According to Basurin, in mid-November, a Polish company supplied Kiev with more than 23,000 mortar shells for 60-mm mortars Ukrainian forces in Donbas will receive this ammunition in the near future.

"In this regard, we expect more mortar attacks on our front-line villages in the direction of Mariupol, including the use of western weapons, which will demonstrate the direct involvement of a foreign state in the internal conflict of Ukraine against the population of Donbas," Basurin said at a briefing.

The military operation in eastern Ukraine was launched by Kiev in 2014 against militias of Donbas, after local residents of the region refused to recognize the new Ukrainian authorities.

In 2015, a ceasefire deal was signed between conflicting sides in Minsk after talks brokered by the leaders of the so-called Normandy group Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine. Despite the ceasefire agreement, sporadic fighting has continued in Donbas. To date, the situation remains tense, with both parties accusing each other of violating the ceasefire. According to the United Nations, more than 10,000 people have died in the conflict.
