Senior Russian Diplomat, Kuwaiti Ambassador Discuss Syrian, Yemeni Crises - Moscow

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd November, 2018) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and Kuwaiti Ambassador to Russia Abdulaziz Adwani discussed on Friday the situation in the middle East region, including the developments in Syria and Yemen, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"During the conversation, the diplomats have exchanged opinions on the situation in Syria, Yemen as well as other topical issues of the regional and global agenda, also in the context of bilateral cooperation on the UN Security Council platform," the ministry said, noting that Kuwait is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Yemen has been gripped by the civil war with the government headed by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi fighting the Shia Houthi movement. The Yemeni government is backed by the Saudi-led coalition that has been carrying out airstrikes targeting the areas controlled by the Houthis since March 2015.

Syria has been engulfed in an armed conflict since 2011. At the moment, the Syrian government forces continue military operations in several areas of the country to clear them from terrorists. The political resolution, rebuilding of the country and return of the refugees have come to the forefront in Syria.
