Iraq's Business With Iran Unaffected by US Sanctions - Foreign Minister

Iraq will continue trading with Iran despite US sanctions, Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Alhakim said on Thursday.

ROME (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd November, 2018) Iraq will continue trading with Iran despite US sanctions, Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Alhakim said on Thursday.

"We are not in a position to stop our trade with them. We share values and culture. Therefore, we are not concerned about the sanctions imposed by America on Iran," he said at the Mediterranean Dialogues (MED) forum in Rome.

The Iraqi minister, who attended the Mediterranean Dialogues in Italy together with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, estimated their trade at $12 billion.

The United States reimposed sanctions on Iran's oil trade and banking, lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal. Foreign firms doing business with Iran were told to phase out operations by November or face penalties.
