Gunman Kills 2 Hospital Members, Police Officer In Chicago Shooting - Superintendent

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th November, 2018) A gunman shot and killed two members of the Chicago's Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, and a Chicago police officer during a shooting on Tuesday, Chicago Police Department (CPD) Superintendent Eddie Johnson said during a press conference.

"Now we know that the male individual shot and killed the female that he was in a domestic relationship with and [who] was an employee of the hospital ... During the exchange of gunfire in the hospital, one other female staff member was struck by gunfire fatally. During that exchange, one of our officers that responded was also fatally wounded by the offender. During the gunfire, the offender was also fatally wounded," Johnson told reporters on Tuesday.

He specified that it was currently unclear whether the offender was wounded by police gunfire, or it was a self-inflicted wound.

The gunman fired at a responding police car in the parking lot of the hospital before running inside the facility, Johnson said.

CPD Chief Communications Officer Anthony Guglielmi identified the killed officer as Samuel Jimenez.

Johnson noted that Jimenez was the father of three children and had joined the police department in February 2017.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said during the press conference that one of the staff members killed was a doctor and the other was a pharmaceutical assistant.

A bullet from the gunman also struck the holster of a second police officer, but he did not sustain any bodily injury, Johnson said.

In a separate incident in the US state of Colorado, Denver Police Department spokesman, Doug Schepman, said one person was dead and three others had been taken to hospital in critical condition following a shooting in downtown Denver. The police department later confirmed that the three victims had non-life threatening injuries.
