The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore has arrested nine stenographers, who were allegedly appointed illegally to the Punjab Police.
According to NAB spokesman, the arrested accused included Rashid Mehmood, Abdul Qayyum, Mehmood-ul-Hassan, Muhammad Shahid Ameen, Abid Maqbool, Yasir Ali, Rehan Anwar, Muhammad Naeem Aslam and Faisal Mushtaq.
The case investigation was authorized by the competent authority on receipt of a source report which revealed that during the year 2011-13, a total of 272 stenographers were recruited by the Punjab Police, out of which around 22 were appointed illegally.
These appointees had neither applied for the said posts nor appeared for the examination, conducted by the Punjab Public Service Commission.
NAB Lahore official had arrested seven accused stenographers on October 12 this year, who were sent on judicial remand by an accountability court in Lahore. However, nine stenographers had approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) for acquiring their pre-arrest bail.
On Monday, the NAB Lahore got custody of these officials after cancellation of their pre-arrest bail. They would be produced before an accountability court on Tuesday for seeking their physical remand.
