Pompeo, S. Korea Unification Chief To Boost Coordination On Denuclearization - State Dept.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th November, 2018) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and South Korea Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon during a meeting vowed to boost coordination on denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, the State Department said in a press release.

On Friday, the North Korean state-run Korean Central Broadcasting Station announced that Pyongyang had successfully tested a state-of-the-art tactical weapon under the supervision of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. This was North Korea's first official weapons test in a year.

"They [Pompeo and Cho] affirmed their commitment to close coordination during ongoing efforts to achieve the final, fully verified denuclearization of the DPRK [North Korea]," the release said on Friday.

The two officials, the release added, also discussed ways to deepen coordination so that inter-Korean cooperation and progress on US-North Korean negotiations toward denuclearization remain aligned.

In April, Kim and US President Donald Trump during a summit in Singapore agreed that Pyongyang would denuclearize in exchange for a freeze on US-South Korean military drills and potential sanctions relief.
