A melodious performance by Ustad Roshan Abbas Saturday enthralled the audience here at the auditorium of Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA).
The concert was organized by the PNCA under its monthly music programme `Baithak' for providing quality entertainment to the residents of twin cities by the performance of popular folk artists.
Besides presenting his popular melodies, Ustad Roshan Abbas, who is an exponent of Gwalior Gharana and brother of Ghulam Abbas Khan, also discussed various aspects of classical singing and his life experience with the audience. He shared his thoughts on the origin and evolution of music.
Earlier, PNCA's Director General Jamal Shah payed tribute to Roshan Khan for his services and contributions to the music world.
Ustan Roshan Khan has been groomed under the tutelage of his late uncle Ustad Ahmed Ali Khan and father Ustad Rahmat Ali Khan of Gwalior Gharana. He can be termed an exciting prospect for the classical Pakistani music. Gwalior Gharana is considered to be one of the pioneering schools of khayal singing alongside Kirana, Qawwali Bacchay, Talwandi and Agra. The Gharana is said to have been founded by Ustad Nathan Peer Buksh, who was associated with the Gwalior Court.
His art was passed on to his grandsons, the legendary Ustads Haddu and Hassu Khan. Roshan hails from a family of musicians, who have been vocalists for almost 500 years.
Ustad Roshan Khan received a great applause from the music enthusiasts for presenting his best compositions.
The musical show entertained the audience with soothing melodies by the singer accompanied by instrumental music on various popular tunes. It also provided a platform of national level to the singer to show his skills through melodic performance for the fun lovers of twin cities.
The audience termed the show an excellent opportunity to enjoy the traditional songs in a live concert by the established artiste, who gave a message of peace, love and harmony through combining expressions of the traditional musical heritage of the subcontinent.
The remarkable performance compelled the audience to join melodious tunes with singing and dancing.
Baithak is part of regular activities of PNCA to preserve and promote the musical heritage of different areas of the country and give recognition to the folk artistes for their contribution in the field of singing.
