Afghan Peace Council Hopes Taliban Will Make Decision on Negotiations With Government Soon

The Afghanistan High Peace Council is hoping that the Taliban movement will make its decision on the direct talks with the Afghan government soon, as the people in the country are tired of fighting, the spokesman for the council told Sputnik on Friday on the sidelines of Moscow format talks.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th November, 2018) The Afghanistan High Peace Council is hoping that the Taliban movement will make its decision on the direct talks with the Afghan government soon, as the people in the country are tired of fighting, the spokesman for the council told Sputnik on Friday on the sidelines of Moscow format talks.

"Tendency is growing among the different levels of the Taliban leadership for the direct talks to take place sooner with the government of Afghanistan. We hope it's sooner when they are deciding to announce their readiness for talks to take place between the government and the Taliban, because the people of Afghanistan are tired of fighting, people of Afghanistan are thirsty for peace," Ihsan Taheri said.

The council is hoping that the Taliban movement will respect Afghanistan's people's wish for peace, the spokesman added.

The second round of Moscow format talks on Afghan settlement, attended by representatives of the Taliban and by a delegation from the High Peace Council, was held in the Russian capital earlier in the day.
